There is some good news for Québec corporations. Revenu Québec has announced a higher small business deduction rate (from 8.3% to 9.3%), which brings the minimum provincial rate on eligible income down from 3.2% to 2.2%. It applies to tax years beginning after April 29, 2026, and has conditions, so it doesn't apply the same way to everyone.
What does it mean for your company's cash flow, salary-versus-dividend decisions, or growth plans? That's a conversation worth having before year-end, not after.

1. Rates on hold, confidence down: what it means for your business this fall
2. Three things Québec business owners should know before November
3. Your October–December tax calendar, plus this month's news
Preview line: Interest rates stay put, small-business confidence slips, and a few dates to put in your calendar now.
Hello,
October is here, and with it the busiest stretch of the business year. We read the news so you don't have to. Here's what matters for Québec business owners and the self-employed, and what to do about it.
1. The Bank of Canada held its rate at 2.25%. On September 2, the central bank left its key rate unchanged. It pointed to a stronger economy, inflation near 3% (mostly gasoline) and uncertainty from U.S. tariffs and energy prices. The next decision is October 28.
What it means for you:Your line of credit and loan costs likely won't drop soon, and an increase isn't off the table. Plan your financing with that in mind.
2. Small-business confidence fell sharply. The CFIB's September report shows its optimism indexes dropping about 10 points, to the 40s. It blames tariff uncertainty and high fuel costs.
What it means for you: If your margins are tight, this is the time to review pricing, suppliers and cash flow before the slower winter months.
3. Revenu Québec clarified its QST zero-rating of some products. Since July 15, QST no longer applies to certain items, including individual-portion baked goods and frozen treats, some prepared produce, seasoned nuts and seeds, and paper hygiene products.
What it means for you: If you sell food or paper goods, check that your invoicing and cash register are set up correctly. Whether the rule applies depends on your situation.
Take 30 minutes this month to project your cash for the next 90 days. Include the GST/QST you'll owe on the third quarter and your December instalment. Setting that money aside now makes the due dates a non-event.
• October 15: Québec source deductions for quarterly remitters; federal payroll remittance for September for monthly remitters
• October 28: Bank of Canada rate decision
• November 2: GST/QST return and payment for July–September for quarterly filers (October 31 is a Saturday, so the deadline moves to the next business day)
• November 16: Federal payroll remittance for October for monthly remitters (the 15th is a Sunday)
• December 15: Personal tax instalment, if you pay by instalments
Your own dates may differ depending on your filing frequency, so confirm them for your situation.

Warm regards,
